Test self-monitored alerts

Know the service boundary

Vigil is self-monitored home software. It does not provide emergency dispatch. Keep household emergency arrangements independent of an app notification, and use official local channels for emergency planning.

Test the whole path

An alert has at least three parts: the condition, the configured delivery path and the destination where you read it. A successful trigger in a local log does not establish that the destination received the notification.

1. Confirm the intended alert destination.
2. Create a controlled test condition.
3. Check the destination and record the receipt time.

Check interruption behavior

Repeat after a normal app restart and a temporary network interruption. Record missed or late alerts and revise the setup before enabling additional triggers. Avoid treating an untested notification as a confirmed household safeguard.
