Understand sensing

Test presence sensing in your room

Compare sensor output with known activity in the actual space.

2 minute read · Updated September 17, 2026

Sensing behavior depends on hardware, placement and the room. Begin with a simple observation log rather than assuming a published capability applies to every setup. Use the supported sensing method available to your installation and label uncertainty clearly.

Work through it

  1. Record sensor placement, the room layout and the condition you want to detect. Establish an empty-room observation before testing activity.
  2. Repeat a few known scenarios: entering, sitting still and leaving. Record both missed activity and detections when no one is present.
  3. Change only one setup variable at a time. Repeat the observations before deciding whether the new position or setting improved the result.

Check your result

  • Tests include quiet occupancy and an empty room.
  • False detections are recorded.
  • The chosen routine fits the observed accuracy.
