Plan your setup
Check a device’s local network path
Separate discovery, control and internet dependence when testing a device.
A device appearing in a list is not the same as successful local control. Some products require a vendor account or cloud connection for particular functions. Test the exact operation you need and document the setup that makes it work.
Work through it
- Record the computer, device model, firmware and network. Check whether guest-network isolation or separate subnets prevent the two devices from communicating.
- Try one supported read and one supported control operation. Observe the physical result, not only the app’s confirmation.
- If the device documentation permits it, test the relevant workflow during an internet interruption while keeping the local network running. Note which functions remain available.
Check your result
- Discovery and control are verified separately.
- Network changes are documented.
- Cloud-dependent functions are identified.
