Vigil FAQ
Does Vigil require a vendor cloud?
No. Core device control, scenes, security logic, and sensing run locally. The website account handles your subscription and download; optional alerts go only to an endpoint you choose.
Does Vigil require cameras?
No. Cameras are optional. Available sensing methods depend on the hardware and permissions you choose, and Vigil supports camera-free presence sensing.
Is Vigil professionally monitored?
No. Vigil is self-monitored and does not dispatch emergency services. It logs local events and can send an alert to a destination you configure.
Which computers are supported?
The Mac build is available in early access. A Windows build is available as unsigned early access, so Microsoft SmartScreen may warn during installation.
How much does Vigil cost?
Vigil software starts with 7 days free, then $25 per month. Optional Vigil sensor nodes are $25 each, available to pre-order.
What information leaves my home?
Raw sensing stays local. Checkout and the website account hold subscription data; a manual update check sends an ordinary web request, and a configured Away Alert sends alert text to the endpoint you selected.

The consumer edition is not represented as HIPAA compliant or HIPAA certified, and Black Label does not currently offer a business associate agreement for Vigil. Do not use it for a regulated protected-health-information workflow.

Vigil is designed for people who want local control, scenes, and optional presence sensing from a computer they own. Start with the devices and routines you already use.
- List the exact brand and model of each device you want to control. Confirm compatibility before buying sensor hardware.
- During the software trial, discover a supported device and check its real on/off state from the app.
- Create one room scene. Run it, restart the app, and test it again. Confirm your computer can stay available when you need automations.
- If sensing matters to you, test the required hardware in the actual room. Check arrival, departure, and an empty room.
- If using alerts, trigger one deliberately and verify it reaches your configured destination.
